Glaseksperten: up to 30% more uptime on one machine

uptime on one machine
We have started to take a much more active stance on our uptime. It must not just be a number that stands on its own.
At a glance
Glaseksperten has many processes under one roof and many stand-alone machines. They brought in OptiPeople Data Platform to answer a simple question: is the machine running or not?
That question quickly grew into a more deliberate way of working with capacity, uptime, stop causes and board meetings. On one machine, uptime rose by up to 30%, simply because the operators could now see it.
In the video, Mikkel (Factory Manager), Jacob (Head of Technical Projects) and Mikkel (sustainability and environment coordinator) tell the story in their own words. The video is in Danish.
The starting point
Glaseksperten wanted to know its capacity. With so many processes and stand-alone machines in one building, they wanted to know, very practically, whether each machine was running, and to look at the processes around it.
The goal: use the capacity as well as possible and get higher uptime.
From gut feeling to the actual machine
Capacity used to be judged from gut feeling or from broad figures such as square metres. Now Glaseksperten looks at the physical machine and the signals it sends.
That has created awareness of capacity on the floor. Uptime is no longer just a number. The team asks why the uptime is what it is, and uses the data to test ideas: what happens if we change this parameter, staff the machine differently, or run more shifts?
Up to 30% more uptime on one machine
On one machine, uptime rose by up to 30%. Nothing was rebuilt. The operator at the neighbouring machine saw that by helping a colleague, the two of them could win back those 30% together.
The mindset is spreading. One operator asked to be put on a particular machine, because he wanted to go out and make a good number that day.
Next steps
The next step is to get stop causes fully in place, which will give even more input. The numbers are also moving onto the board meetings, so the insight spreads more widely across production.
A partner that listens
Glaseksperten has had a dedicated OptiPeople project manager from the start. Small things and larger development requests are handled the same way: the team listens, comes back quickly with a solution, or explains why it cannot be done. Problems are solved fast once they are raised.
